Want to know how to navigate safely in traffic?  Or where do those bike trails lead to? Need advice on the kind of bike that’s right for you? Then sign up for our Smart Cycling class. Smart Cycling is the leading national bicycle education curriculum developed by the League and has taught thousands of people across the county for over 40 years.  It will develop your confidence and competence to ride a bike, whatever your level of ability.  It’s been designed for those who have been riding for years as well as those who are just thinking about getting on (or back on) a bike.  Ages 16 and up are invited to join the class.

You’ll learn about choosing a bicycle, basic parts of a bike, essential equipment, as well as how to safely and comfortably ride in various traffic conditions, terrain and climates.   We'll start with online instruction and follow that with hands- and feet-on learning.

The YMCA Kingston Smart Cycling class includes four hours via Zoom (5:30-9:30 on Friday, April 1st) and five hours of on-bike activities starting at 9:30am on Saturday, April 2nd. We'll conclude with a group ride on the streets of Kingston, NY.  Once registered, all participants will receive the Smart Cycling Manual (English or Spanish). Registrants will be advised if weather or other issues require a change in schedule.  The class will be taught by Tom Polk, certified League Cycling Instructor (LCI #4092).

Participants are encouraged, but not required, to view the League's Smart Cycling videos prior to the class.

Bike and helmet required; participants may bring their own or use the Y’s.  Covid -19 protocols in effect will be followed.  Details will be sent once you have signed up.
